German University Alliance Opened |
A German University Alliance
“Our decision to open a joint Liaison Office in New York expands the international partnership of these leading research universities within a larger framework of interregional cooperation,” says Professor Dieter Lenzen, President of the Freie Universität Berlin. “But even more importantly, we are building a bridge across the Atlantic, consolidating our international position within the larger scientific community. Together, we will take on our common tasks in a targeted way, while facing the challenges of global competition,” explains Lenzen. Professor Bernd Huber, Rector of the LMU Munich, adds, “the office is our first presence abroad, strengthening us as a force within the international educational market. Together with the Freie Universität Berlin, we plan to take advantage of our status as a major European research university and attract the world’s most brilliant scholars and students to our programs.” Initiated and supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the German University Alliance will work together with this most prominent international student-scholar exchange organization in Germany to help further their mutual goals. Irmintraud Jost, Executive Director, will manage the German University Alliance. Opening celebrations will take place on April 22, 11 AM, in the auditorium of German House with Rector Huber and President Lenzen participating. The opening features a panel discussion on the topic “The Bologna Process and the Transatlantic Academic Relationship.” |
